LinkedIn is constantly changing, with new features being added on a daily basis to fuel your prospecting success.
Here’s an update on what’s brand new AND the best-loved features LinkedIn has brought back due to popular demand.
#1 LinkedIn Search: Viewing the Connections of your Connections
It’s all about who you know, and who they might know too.
You can view mutual connections of anyone that shows up in your search results, which can be useful as a reference when introducing yourself and reaching out to anyone new.
Remember, if you don’t want others to be able to view your connections, you can easily change your settings by clicking on ‘me’ (at the top where your small photo is located) and then ACCOUNT > Settings & Privacy.
“The new ‘connections of’ filter button enables you to see who is in your extended network. In other words, the connections of the person you have found.”
#2 Using Windows 10? Get the New LinkedIn App!
The new LinkedIn desktop app will save you using your browser tabs.
This means you can access LinkedIn from your Start menu and task bar instead of boringly visiting the website to sign in.
It also means important notifications from your connections are highlighted when you click ‘Start’, making it even easier to keep up to date and respond to your connections.
#3 Post Up to 9 Photos at Once…
I LOVE this new ability to post up to nine pictures, instead of just one.
It’s going to save you time and create so much more visual interest.
‘More is more’ with pictures – what strategy can you develop to create more pictures to illustrate your post?
#4 Hover Over People and Companies to Find Out More…
Hoorah, the hover feature has returned!
If you’re looking for more information on the updates within your feed, hover over a person or the company name to learn more, without having to click in to their profile.
“Before replying to a comment or messaging someone, use this feature so you now exactly who you’re interacting with.”
#5 Post Analytics – Learn your Audience
You can easily see who’s paying attention to your posts by viewing the insights LinkedIn provides for you.
You can learn how many people viewed your post, how many people re-shared it, how they found your post, and who they are including where they work.
The timing of when you issue shares is critical. Head over to my article on WHEN to post updates for maximum reach.
“Why not start setting goals for how many views, shares and likes you want your posts to attract?”
#6 Stay in Control of Updates you See
To take full control of what notifications you receive, go to the new customised notifications tab.
You can mute or even turn off any you’re not interested in, whether it be how people are discovering you on LinkedIn, trends and news, or birthdays and anniversaries.
You can also unfollow a connection so that you stop seeing their updates, but still remain connected with them.
“Whilst you can deactivate how people discovered you on LinkedIn, I DON’T recommend it. Lead sources are important to know!”
#7 Calling all Premium Members
There is now a central hub on desktop where you can see all of your features and manage your account.
Click on “Me” at the top (where your small photo is) and go to “Access My Premium.”
Here you’ll find jobs where you are considered a top applicant, learning courses, and personalised insights all located in the same place.
#8 Easily Share your LinkedIn Posts on Other Social Media
People who aren’t logged in and are guests to LinkedIn (those who don’t have an account) can now view your posts, articles and videos!
Just grab the URL and post away to your other social media platforms such as Facebook or twitter.
Choose WHO to share your posts with by clicking on the drop down menu (below the share box) to only allow your connections to view your content if you wish.
“Whilst the share button’s useful, remember the advantages of using schedulers such as hootsuite, MeetEdgar and buffer.”
#9 3… 2… 1… ACTION!!!
This is the one I’m most excited about – the ability to record and post videos directly from the LinkedIn app.
Known as ‘native’ video, some members already have this feature and it will soon be available to all.
This makes it even easier to share you professional expertise and insights.
“I love this feature because it enables you to create an immediacy, energy and excitement to your video shares.”
